Liown Sues for Patent Infringement Against Luminara and Others

Minneapolis, MN – March 11, 2015. Liown Electronics Co. Ltd, one of the world’s largest suppliers of light-emitting diode (LED) flameless candles and lighting, announced today that it has filed a patent infringement claim against nine (9) defendants for infringing on Liown’s U.S. Patent No. 8,926,137, which issued on January 6 and covers Liown’s flameless candle technology, Moving Flame™. Liown has also asserted that these nine (9) companies infringe its U.S. Patent No. 8,789,986.

“We have worked hard to develop our patented technologies, and we need to protect what is ours,” said Liown CEO Johnny Yang. “We were left with little choice but to file this claim so others will stop taking our technology and selling products that infringe on our patents.”

Liown’s Moving Flame™ flameless candles started a revolution in LED flames with motion. Liown’s patents cover these flameless, electronic candles with a natural simulated flame that dances like real flames. As part of the lawsuit, Liown seeks a preliminary injunction to prohibit Luminara from selling infringing candles.

The two-count complaint alleges patent infringement against all 9 corporate defendants, and tortious interference with existing and prospective business relationships against Luminara Worldwide, LLC, Michael O’Shaughnessy, in his capacity as president of Luminara, and John Jacobson, a director-level employee of Luminara. Other defendants are: QVC, Inc., Darice, Inc., Bed Bath & Beyond, Inc., Williams-Sonoma Stores, Inc., Costco Wholesale Corporation, PC, Treasures, Inc., One Kings Lane, Inc., and Brookstone Stores, Inc.

As a result of Liown’s patents, no other company in the world has the legal right to manufacture, market and sell Liown’s patented Moving Flame^™ flameless candle technology. The flameless candles are distributed by GKI/Bethlehem Lights (Torchiér^™ Candles), Boston Warehouse (Mystique^™ Candles), and The Light Garden (Avalon Candle Collection).
